Caribou Club - Not the Average Members-Only Dining Establishment

An entrepreneur and Phoenix, Arizona resident, Mark Love is a partner at Goldmark Venture Partners in Scottsdale. An active member of the Arizona community, Mark Love helped pay for local Sheriff protection when Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the prestigious Caribou Club in Aspen, Colorado in 2019.

The luxury Caribou Club offers members a dining experience that exceeds that of many members-only establishments. Launched in 1990, the club was the resort town’s first members-only establishment offering world-class dining and an extensive wine list, in addition to the chance to relax, play, and unwind at the cocktail bar and night club.

The sumptuous menu offerings are worth the membership. Its diverse menu draws its inspiration from internationally-infused tastes combined with urban couture and mountain hearth. All of the dishes are made from scratch such as bread, fresh pasta, and expertly butchered meats and fish. The wine list has extensive offerings, including some of the rarest and finest vintages, to satisfy even the most knowledgeable connoisseur.

Phoenix Children Earns Top Ranking for the Fourth Time

Mark Love, a Phoenix, Arizona resident, has spent over 30 years working in upper management in the finance sector. Outside of his responsibilities as a partner at Goldmark Venture Partners, Mark Love volunteers his time to organizations in Arizona such as Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

This summer, US News & World Report recognized Phoenix Children’s Hospital as the Best Children’s Hospital, one of its national rankings. As a part of the yearly ranking, the publication assesses children’s hospitals on several measures including clinical expertise and patient outcomes. The publication ranks 118 children’s hospitals with only 24 hospitals being ranked in ten pediatric specialties.

Phoenix Children’s has been included in the rankings for ten years, but this is the fourth year that it has received top marks in all areas. In fact, it was the only one in the 24 hospitals that ranked number one in all ten specialties in 2020-2021.

US News compiles the listing by first sending out questionnaires to close to 200 pediatric hospitals across the country. Each hospital receives a reputation score, which contributes to its final ranking. Pediatric specialists rank top hospitals by answering surveys of where they would send critical patients without regard to cost or need.

Understanding Primary and Secondary Investments

Mark Love is the former Wealth Advisor for LKL Partners in Phoenix, Arizona, and former Senior Vice President at Sutro and Co. Incorporated. Currently a partner at Goldmark Venture Partners in Scottsdale, Arizona, Mark Love is a private investor and investment banker specializing in primary and secondary investment portfolio building.

The significant difference between a primary and secondary investment offering is how the stocks are acquired. In primary investment offerings, investors purchase shares directly from the issuing company. They generally acquire new equity stocks and bonds. Secondary investment markets are a step removed from the parent company; with a secondary investment offering, investors buy stocks from other sources besides the issuer, such as investors, employees, or former employees. They trade existing securities between investors by regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

There are distinct advantages to either type of investment as well. Primary fund investment, which refers to those through several funds into portfolio companies, is an effective method of obtaining diversified exposure to the private equity asset class. On the other hand, secondary fund investment involves buying and selling preexisting investor commitments to private equity funds. Investors who engage in secondary investment expect benefits such as a faster build-up of private equity exposure and increased portfolio transparency.

This data is combined with reputation scores from pediatricians across the country.

US News & World Report has ranked 10 of Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s subspecialties in the country’s best pediatric facilities. The hospital ranked in the top 20 in cancer treatment and in the top 10 in cardiology and heart surgery.

2019 Marks Lowest US Police Officers Fatality in 60 Years

Mark Love serves as a partner with Goldmark Venture Partners in Scottsdale, Arizona. This fund remains one of the top performers in the entire country. Alongside his work with the fund, Mark Love provides financial support to the loved ones of police members who lose their lives in the line of duty.

According to records, 2019 proved to be one of the safest years in history for American police officers. Altogether, 131 police officers lost their lives last year, which is the lowest total since 1959, when 122 died in the line of duty. This has been linked to better training and improved vigilance, as well as improved equipment and more access to quality healthcare. For comparison, 166 officers lost their lives in 2018.

While recognizing that the country has become a safer place for police officers, it is important to note that these civil servants continue to be the object of malicious attacks and much more work needs to be done to keep the number of fatalities moving toward zero.

Key Differences Between Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing

When he is not overseeing investment portfolios or supporting philanthropic efforts, Mark Love takes part in a range of outdoor pursuits. Mark Love enjoys water sports and going snow skiing.

Winter skiing can be categorized into two styles: downhill and cross-country. Downhill skiers move down steep trails powered by gravity, while cross-countries skiers use their muscles to tread up or downhill. For this reason, there are significant differences between the two forms of skiing:

1. Equipment - Cross-country skiing requires the use of Nordic style skis, which bind only the toe of the boot to the ski, allowing the skier to lift the heel of the boot away from the ski. The alpine skis commonly used for downhill skiing secure the entire foot to the ski. Nordic skis are also longer and thinner than their alpine counterparts.

2. Risk - Downhill skiing is a much riskier sport, as participants can pick up speed while traveling down the course. While cross-country skiers have a lower risk of sustaining injuries due to a fall, they can still face dangers from the environment such as hypothermia.

3. Location - Downhill skiing requires the use of a lift to reach the top of a course. For this reason, most people practice the sport at designated ski resorts. On the other hand, cross-country trails are similar to hiking trails in that routes may go through national parks or reserves.

What Do VCs Look at When Considering Investments?

An experienced leader in the finance sector, Mark Love serves as a partner at GoldMark Venture Partners in Arizona. In this capacity, Mark Love oversees venture capital funds and is responsible for making early-stage investments in technology companies.

Whether they are focused on early stage or late-stage investing, venture capitalists (VCs) often look at similar things to determine the viability of investment opportunities. The following are just a few of the things VCs will consider:

- Management team strength: Management teams that lack the ability to execute business plans will likely fail in the long run. For this reason, many VCs look for strong management team members who have track records of building successful businesses. With early stage companies, VCs will look at the quality of the founders and see if they have the ability to work hard and make their dreams a reality.

- Market size: Regardless of how strong the management team is, a business cannot succeed and grow if the market for it does not exist. Before investing in a business, VCs often analyze the size of the company’s target market. When the market size is large, there is a higher chance of VCs investing in the business.

- Competitive advantage: Businesses that have a competitive advantage over existing competition have a higher likelihood of breaking into their desired markets and being successful. This competitive advantage largely comes from addressing consumer wants and needs more affordability and efficiently than others by offering unique products or services that are not readily available.
